We had a great week in school this past week.  It has been a difficult fall with the weather being so beautiful and really not wanting to be indoors.  As the weather turns colder the boys seem to be settling in a bit and ready to study.  I was laughing at Skyler on Friday...he woke up and put his "horse" hat on to take care of his outside chores.  The hat stayed on the rest of the morning.  Why?  Who knows...but it was nice to just let him wear it, no reason not to...  I treasure the ability to allow them to be who they are.  It has been more of a challenge this year tailoring their assignments to meet their learning styles.  I never really realized there was such a difference.  Now, however, I do. :p  Skye is all about the projects.  Cutting, coloring, pasting, assembling anything he can do with his hands and his creative mind he is excited to get going with...for Keagan that is sheer torture.  He would much rather write and get the assignment done.  He is auditory.  He can listen to a story once and give you all the details you could stand...and then some.  So taking the time to write a quick story and move forward suits him well.  It was difficult for me to get used to that idea.  I felt like I was depriving him of all the "fun" projects.  Then I realized there was nothing "fun" about fighting with him to get his school work done.  There was nothing "fun" about his sloppy work just to get the project finished and get mom off his back.  Each year I am learning.  I am getting to know the boys in a way I never realized I could.  I had the idea that I was mom and of course I knew my kids.  But home schooling has given me the opportunity to see them through different eyes.  Not just the eyes of a mom but the eyes of a teacher and mentor.  We have really rough days and some times rough weeks but when I can stop and take a deep breath I am always aware of the blessing I have been given.  The opportunity to stay home and teach our boys.  If you had asked me 5 years ago if I would have considered home schooling I would have looked at you like you were NUTS!  I am glad the Lord changed my vision for our family and for our boys.

I am in the process of "un-facebooking" so I am trying to get in the habit of blogging again.  Just for those of you who are interested in what we are studying with the boys.  We have just finished our third week of the new year and Aaron and I discovered they are not retaining anything...so it's back to the drawing board.

We have had a great summer although I am not quite sure where it went...  We were able to spend a couple of days at our friend's cabin at the beginning of August and are blessed to go back for a long Labor Day weekend.  Have a great week everyone!! ~ Jenn

It has been a while since I have actually thought to sit and update our blog...I figured since I didn't send out Christmas cards this year I should take a minute to do that. :) We are all doing well. The boys and I are in our third year of home school and loving it!! I have been amazed at how much I have learned teaching them! We just finished Astronomy and I learned so much more just in the last 6 months about space than I did in my college Astronomy class!! It was much more fascinating than I remember. :) We will start Botany next week and go through the summer so we can experiment with our garden!
In History we finished from the fall of Rome through the Renaissance. The boys loved learning about Shakespeare (go figure) and the explorers. They were quite disgusted with Henry VIII, all of his wives and how he treated his children!
They have both picked up a passion this year...Last year Keagan was all about sharks, this year it is WWI and WWII bomber and fighter planes. He loves to hang out with his dad and watch war documentaries. It amazes how much his brain can retain! I love allowing him to have these passions, they give me so much material for teaching and he loves learning!
Skyler has picked up origami...it frustrates him to no end but he still loves working through it. We have found a sweet young lady in our home school group that loves origami as well so she tutors Skyler once a week in an origami "class." He is in 7th heaven!! :)
Aaron has been quite busy with side jobs this winter. We are looking forward to reaping the benefits of them when we go to Sedona in April! I am looking forward to some warmer weather and I know he is anxious to get back on two wheels and hit the trails!!
I hope everyone is doing well! Have a wonderful Spring!!!
